ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, While channel-flipping one evening I witnessed a preacher tell his audience, "You expect me to believe that a lizard crawled up out of the mud one day and evolved into a monkey and that monkey is my grandfather?!"
This is an example of a classic, low-brow argument. It sounds ridiculous -- to me -- therefore your position is false. In this case, the preacher portrayed evolutionary theory in an extra-ridiculous fashion so as to better help his congregation to come to the conclusion they had already pegged as the more desirable one. This strategy is otherwise known as the straw-man logical fallacy.
Of course, no one seriously believes that the mud spontaneously and instantaneously generated life. Tegretol for sale, Nor that a monkey ever gave birth to a human being. There were likely hundreds of transitional forms.
I would not label the preacher's argument as clever, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. But there are those educated individuals who do make some clever attacks on evolutionary theory specifically and the fully naturalistic worldview in general. In the coming days I will be making a series of posts addressing some of these more clever criticisms. I hope to show both how they are used and why they are flawed.
CCET I: Evolution as Religion
Once, while in mixed company -- in terms of beliefs -- I claimed that, "football is my religion." When prompted to explain by an individual's simple response, "What?!" I shared with the others a part of myself most would not label exalt-worthy, buy Tegretol online no prescription. I divulged that I ritualistically watch games on Sundays during football season. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, Every single Sunday without exception. (I may have called it my holy day). Furthermore, I praise my team beyond reason and I follow the life and works of a charismatic quarterback, etc.
"This is clearly irrational behavior, Fast shipping Tegretol, " I said. After a pause, in so many words the individual told me to get real. And she was right. Seeming irrationality does not a religion make, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Okay, so my passion for professional football is not really a religion. I was using the term colloquially, buying Tegretol online over the counter. Meaning I was playing fast and loose with the word for effect.
Similarly, you have use the word "religion" very loosely if you want to call believing in evolution a religion. This is one of the common, more clever criticism of evolution I have encountered. (Clever is clearly relative.)
ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, Behind this criticism I think there is a tit-for-tat mentality and an effort to level an otherwise tilted playing field. I have my beliefs and you have yours. Tegretol trusted pharmacy reviews, Yet belief in a supernatural agent or force is distinctly different from a belief in naturalistic processes that have been observed and measured and tested nearly ad nauseum.
The former type of belief is a fundamental element of religion. True religion. The latter is not. Believing in evolutionary theory -- even dogmatically so -- does not constitute a religion, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Believers in evolution do not congregate with others in a house of worship. When they do congregate they tend to argue and disagree, as scientists in any field are in the habit of doing, and it is a good habit, order Tegretol online c.o.d, an encouraged habit. No topic or idea or person or implement is considered sacred. They worship no supernatural deity. And they plainly do not "worship" in any practical sense of the word.
ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, My eating potato chips while watching a game on Sunday is not religion. Nor is believing in evolution. Not unless that word is stretched so far it loses meaning.
CCET II: The Origins Gap
Where did that first cell come from. Where can i order Tegretol without prescription, Well. If you can't answer that, your theory, your entire worldview even, is suspect.
While somewhat clever, this argument is bogus in a number of regards. I'll address three.
1, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Evolutionary theory is a theory about how organisms and species evolve, where can i find Tegretol online. It is not called Origination Theory. And Darwin's seminal work was not titled "Origin of Life" but "Origin of Species."
In explaining how organisms have developed and changed through time evolutionary theory succeeds very well. In revealing the starting point . . . not so much. Buy Tegretol from canada, Yet. Sure, there are tantalizing hints, but nothing concrete. However, that evolutionary theory is not a "Theory of Everything" is a strike against it only when expecting too much too soon.
Looking at preceding lifeforms to explain subsequent lifeforms certainly can beg the question of what was "that" very first form, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. To follow biological development backwards like one might a trail of breadcrumbs does indeed lead to a blurred terminus rather than a distinct first case or cause. But if worded in terms of, say, rx free Tegretol, a first cell, I think the question reflects a false and limited perspective. Instead, I would word the question this way: "How did the first living cells originate?" There is a significant difference between the two wordings. Emphasizing a single cell paints a picture favorable to some sort of immaculate beginning. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, But my guess is that in the original soup of pre-life there were whole bunches of near cells interacting and, just as it is with the origin of human life, drawing a clear line between cell and non-cell might be difficult. Buy generic Tegretol, Expecting one cell to be the mother of all may therefore be mistaken. Maybe a bunch of almost-cells gave rise to a first cell, or cells, that then played a role in the development of life.
2. Incomplete doesn't mean flawed.
I believe in technological evolution. To explain how the automobile got here, I would look to preceding forms and the multiple forces that influenced the transitions from one form to the next, purchase Tegretol online. As for the evolution of the car, it is easy to envision clear transitions from one decade's models to the next, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. It makes perfect sense looking back to the Ford Model A and perhaps a number of years beyond. But venture further and your trail will lead you to a gap. Beyond the gap there seems to be just horses and carriages and trains. How the heck do you get from a train and a horse-drawn carriage to an automobile. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, Explain that. A horse is not a car and a train is certainly not a car. Buy Tegretol online cod, Until that is explained do we doubt that the evolution of the automobile was the work of human beings over time?
Newton's theory of gravity is incomplete. It doesn't explain some of the orbits of planets in our solar system. Fortunately, later theories, including Einstein's theories of relativity, helped further complete our understanding of gravity. Is Newton's theory flawed, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. No, buy Tegretol from mexico, it is incomplete. Where did the later insight come as to why his theory was flawed. Yet more science.
3. A gap is just a gap. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, When a gap is encountered it is not an argument for any other position. The other positions, Tegretol from canadian pharmacy, be they scientific, religious, supernatural, etc., must stand on their own merits. That is a primary reason why "Intelligent Design" should not be taught in classrooms as an alternative theory. Criticisms of one position may weaken that position, where can i buy cheapest Tegretol online, but they do not magically support some other position.
Newton's theory was incomplete. Why not fill that gap with woo. Oops, Einstein filled it with more science, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Sure, there are plenty of remaining gaps in our understanding. Should these be filled with woo too. Purchase Tegretol online no prescription, Or should we instead be patient and keep in mind the way virtually all gaps encountered thus far have been filled?
CCET III: A Scientist by Any Other Name
I'm not so sure that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. As a thought experiment, I can envision having subjects smell identical flowers and rate them. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, One group would be told that the name of the flower was "vomit blossom." Would the subjects truly rate that flower as highly sweet, or would their brain make associations that interfered with the sweetness and perhaps even partially spoiled it?
A cheap rhetorical ploy used against advocates of evolutionary theory is to brand them with the title "Darwinist." An attempt is made to smear them with limiting connotations. Yes, you are merely the blind followers of one man.
Would it be a greater stretch to label cosmologists "Einstein-ists?" That label, however, wouldn't carry the same negative connotations as "Darwinist, buy cheap Tegretol no rx," so few would stoop to it.
Almost a decade ago, at the turn of the millennium, Time magazine published an issue with the cover story of not man-of-the-year (perhaps they've switched to "person"), but a person-of-the-millennium. The person: Albert Einstein.
My vote would have been for Charles Darwin. Where can i buy Tegretol online, And not because I'm a simple groupie. The reason I would have voted for him is the very same reason people tend to disdain him. The paradigm shift his work initiated has much greater, personal implications than that of Einstein.
Okay, space and time are relative, whatever that means, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. . . . What, I'm just an animal!
Of course, buy Tegretol without prescription, advocates of evolution follow Darwin only as much as we recognize the importance of the idea he co-originated (am I then also a Wallace-ian?) and we respect the truly awesome work he did as a scientist (the data he collected and analyzed!) in a time when science was just getting rolling.
Am I a Darwinist. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, I guess maybe. I think Charles was way cool. But I don't have a Darwin shrine in my house. And I recognized that although the man was ahead of his time, the full range of his ideas is now behind our own time.
Although some people, Where to buy Tegretol, including Ben Stein in his silly smear-campaign film, are inclined to refer to advocates of evolution as Darwinists, we have long ago outgrown that label.
CCET IV: Random Nature
A true atheist must deny evolution because that seemingly scientific description of nature assumes a certain order to things that an utterly random universe cannot support. Hence, evolution is religion.
A few weeks ago an old friend of mine posted a blog entry containing the above lines. Reading it planted a seed in me for this series of posts I've been writing, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. I think the topic is important.
Along the same vein he wrote,
Any self-respecting atheist will insist that the rise of the first cell was purely happenstance.
"Straw man" wording aside (i.e., order Tegretol no prescription, defining what the opposition thinks in a manner that makes it easier to refute) the commonly made argument is false. You may have encountered a different version of this argument in a form something like this: "Believing in evolution is tantamount to believing that a tornado ripping through a junk yard could produce an airplane."
I think I speak for many if not most atheists when I say that I don't believe evolution is purely random.
And that stands for talk of the first chicken or the first cell. True, the term "random" is sometimes used to quickly (and poorly) counter the "by design" argument. But evolution is far from random. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, There are real-world properties to the materials involved that constrain/enable the process. Japan, craiglist, ebay, overseas, paypal, Coupled with that is the whole selection side -- which is huge. One might say that even proto-cells were selected via the success of their continued existence. While the process is likely unintentional (and maybe that is the real bone of contention), it is not random. In so many fields of study the word "random" is merely a band-aid placed over variables that are poorly understood and/or terribly complex.
The inanimate substances from which the animate arose are not fully inert. Additionally, the selection process keeps truly random life-forms from developing, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Survival is the test all forms must pass. And what makes a form able to survive is not arbitrary, order Tegretol from mexican pharmacy. Nor is it absolute or even pre-defined.
Evolution is not a neat and clean linear progression. The tree of life is more of a dynamic, entangled bush. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, In and on your body right now you've got more bacteria than you could shake a very tiny stick at. In all of your cells you've got an organelle - mitochondria - that originated as its own life-form but was co-opted by other cells. What you don't have in each of your cells is, Real brand Tegretol online, say, a random bit of minerals. Sapphires in some and diamonds in others.
While it is true that the transition from (and line drawn between) inanimate matter and biological life is mind-bogglingly complex, it is not true that we can chalk it up to pure happenstance.
A yellow snake giving birth to a blue pine cone -- now that would be random. The world makes sense not because it follows a blueprint or is guided by an over-arching intention or singular force, but because the characteristics of the materials and natural processes involved create patterns. Patterns we can observe; patterns we can test.

Update: My old backpacking buddy, Walt, has today posted a clarification of his view of evolution on his blog, Woods Wanderer.
CCET V: DNA as a Code, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. , online buying Tegretol hcl. . with a Code-Maker
The genetic material that provides for the formation of biological life is often referred to as a code. Or a language. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, Or a set of instructions. There is a problem with terms such as these. They imply -- advantageously, Ordering Tegretol online, to some -- that there is a code-maker, an intelligence that created the language, or that there an intentional agent behind the instructions. But the implication is mistaken.
Where there is a true language, or a code or even a set of instructions, you will indeed find an agent making the message. On the other end you will find another agent to decipher the meaning before any work is done, where to buy Tegretol. Not so with the genetic code, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. There is no "meaning" transmitted by DNA.
I do not think it's too much of a stretch to say that genes primarily encode* proteins. (*For lack of a better word, and that is a problem.) When examining how proteins are generated, we see that the codes/instructions need no interpretation. They are a part of a chemical process that works without an intelligence of any form to decipher a meaning.
Here is the way I picture it: DNA is something of a protein-template carried within the nucleus of the cell. Rx free Tegretol, Via messenger RNA, the template's form gets carried outside the nucleus to where the form becomes a protein-stamp. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, Or mold, maybe. (Of course it is more complicated than that.)
Is "the genetic code" a sent message or a set of instructions. No. DNA is no more instructions on how to build a cell -- to be read, the meaning extracted, and then followed -- than is a Rube Goldberg machine a set of instructions on how to get a rolling metal ball to swing a hammer and crack an egg onto a hot frying pan, buy no prescription Tegretol online. Since when do instructions do the actual work?
If genes are a code they are a code without meaning. Which might not make sense, but only when we attempt to inject human sensibilities into it.
---
Addendum: In #2 of this series, The Origins Gap, I discussed the gap in our understanding of how "the" first cell originated, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Yesterday it occurred to me that the problem in understanding the process, and the process itself, might be analogous to the problem of "the" first eye. As we now understand, Purchase Tegretol, there was no magical jump from no-eye-at-all to the first, complete eye. Instead, there were numerous intermediary forms. And "the eye" is actually a number of different eye-forms that evolved independently. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, So "the" eye didn't magically spring from a single source. A bunch of eyes developed separately from their own sources, however similar the sources and processes might be.
Is it possible that the same is true for not "the" first cell but the first cells, where to buy Tegretol. I think so.
CCET VI: Answers From the Gap
[This is the sixth and final post in a series, Clever Criticisms of Evolution (specifically, and the naturalistic worldview in general). Intro post here.]

"So, you're a materialist?"
A couple summers ago I was talking with an acquaintance when he asked me that. Order Tegretol online overnight delivery no prescription, While I replied "Ahhh…" stalling to give myself time to best answer the question, I got hit with another question.
"So you believe that this world is all there is?"
Again, I paused to consider how to best reply. Maybe all that pausing is why I'm drawn to writing, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. You have more time to compose your thoughts.
The individual then went on to describe how he was interested in the wisdom of the shaman and their connection to the non-material realm (in so many words).
While I do believe shaman might have keen insight and perhaps knowledge of esoteric subjects, the "other realm" part I am skeptical of. I guess that does indeed make me a materialist. But materialist is another word I don't like, japan, craiglist, ebay, overseas, paypal. Why. The root is material ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, , and examine any material close enough and what have you got beyond patterns of energy. An "energy-ist" wouldn't carry the same connotations. Materialist is an old word with baggage.
Do I believe this world is all there is. Actually, I don't. Order Tegretol from United States pharmacy, I think there is more "out there" than we know. Perhaps our universe is much, much larger than we know, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. Perhaps there are other universes. But here's the thing: While I don't believe "this world is all there is," I also don't believe we know anything about what is beyond this world.
I consider myself a naturalist. What is beyond the natural world, the world we know. Well, we don't know. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, As a skeptical naturalist I reject the injection of spiritual/mystical ideas into the unknown. Why. Because we know nothing about it. It's that simple.
Is there a supernatural realm. Well. Maybe, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. But to say that it influences the workings of the natural world and we can somehow know it is to pull the supernatural into the realm of the natural.
Many intelligent, educated individuals would like to hold on to religious/spiritual/mystical notions and emotions. And so they are drawn to the unanswered questions of life's origins and quantum uncertainty and what came before the big bang, etc. Why. These are gaps. ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE, And into these gaps they can more safely inject their ideas. Yet gaps are not doors into the unknown, but rather limits of the known.
Sure, some atheists and evolutionary scientists act like they are blindly biased and may in fact be blind to some of the important questions and existing gaps. They even seem to exercise what appears to be an unreasonable faith in science, extending it beyond solid ground.
That said, at least scientific speculation beyond the known tends to be guided by what we already know. The same cannot be said for religious/spiritual/mystical speculations.
Religious thinkers tend to also be drawn to the big gaps in human understanding because they can then insist, "Your understanding is flawed." But it isn't. The understanding is incomplete. And the implication that a flawed opposing viewpoint magically gives credence to an alternative viewpoint is fully wrong, ONLINE Tegretol FOR SALE. A gap in my understanding in no way elevates your own. Any position must stand or fall on its own merits.
A gap is like the hole in an upside-down top hat. Sure, claim there is a rabbit in there. But don't expect me to believe you when you insist it came from another realm. You've got to show me how you know it.
